2017 National Competition (Alexandra)
hosted by the Central Otago Modeller's Society
Coinciding with the annual Blossom Festival the 2017 IPMS Nationals, held in Alexandra over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th, had a colourful and busy backdrop.
Once again the quality of models on the table was astonishing and the judges had their work cut out for them as they assessed the fine craftsmanship and deliberated at length to award the ultimate winners. The Junior/Beginner category showcased some impressive (and promising) results, and the Miscellaneous/Sci-Fi section included some strange and beautifully finished pieces. But it was the Figures category that proved the show-stopper providing the finest, most dramatic and jaw-dropping examples of modelling, - truly a testament to the nerve, patience and skillful control of the artistes.
The overall turnout was good with many of the clubs represented. It was great to see IPMS members from as far away as Auckland putting in an appearance and including examples of their fine work amongst the competition.
A big thank you to COMS for hosting us all this year and congratulations on executing such a professional and smooth-running event. Now we just need to dig in and start working towards next years competition in Cambridge - as we all know how fast that will come around!
